Driver CPC Training 35 Hours

Driver Certificate of Competence (DCPC)

On the 10th September 2009 a new EU Directive (2003/59EC) came into force for all professional LGV drivers.

This directive is now known as Driver CPC and will require existing LGV / PSV licence holders who drive professionally to complete 35 hours of accredited training every 5 years.

New LGV / PSV drivers that wish to drive professionally will now have to complete the four modules that make up the initial qualification. ( Modules 1a, 1b, 2 and 4 )

The Government has appointed the DVSA as the competent body to oversee the implementation of this directive and the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) was formed to control the accreditation of training providers, driver cpc training centres and driver cpc training courses.

If you would like to attend any of the courses below please contact us to book your place as we need to confirm attendance and places are limited to 15 per course date.

MiDAS Minibus Driver Training Course

Minibus Driver Assessment Scheme

In 2006 the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), following a legal opinion, issued guidance on teachers and other school staff who do not have D1 entitlement on their licences driving minibuses.

Shortly afterwards, the Department for Transport issued its own guidance and although basically the same, there are some differences in the wording.

In the DfT guidance it implies that provided the employee is under no obligation to drive a minibus and they have the option to refuse, then they can be considered to be a volunteer and drive a minibus without the D1 entitlement.

The term used in the guidance is ‘incidental drivers’.

The DfES guidance states that driving a PCV (minibus) must not be in a teacher’s job description and they should not be paid any additional money for minibus driving, other than ‘out of pocket’ expenses. ‘Incidental drivers’ can include other school staff as well as teachers, provided there is no obligation to drive a minibus.
